Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 21, 2026 · Version 2026-08-21-r10

1. Who We Are and What This Policy Covers

Neo is an AI homework tutoring service for students and families. This Privacy Policy explains what Neo collects, how it uses and discloses information, how long information is kept, and the choices available to parents, guardians, and students.

Neo is operated by Alex Vinsky (“Neo,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), who is the data controller. This Policy applies to the Neo iPad application, learnwithneo.com public pages, and related support services. It does not replace the privacy policies of Apple or other services a family chooses to use.

2. Neo’s Privacy Commitments

  • Neo does not sell personal information.
  • Neo does not show advertising or use personal information for targeted or behaviorally targeted advertising.
  • Neo does not track students across other companies’ apps or websites.
  • Neo does not use tutoring content to train Neo’s own general-purpose AI models.
  • Neo does not request precise GPS location, contacts, or advertising identifiers.

3. Information Neo Collects

  • Student and family information may include a display name, grade, tutor and language choices, settings, account and device credentials, age category when setup requests it, parent or guardian email, subscription and notification status, and records of profile management, approval, and consent.
  • Tutoring and learning information may include live voice and transcripts; student and tutor messages; homework or worksheet images; visible board work, drawings, handwriting, annotations, and answers; saved homework and session-replay data; and related subject, problem, skill, accuracy, progress, activity, streak, and prize records.
  • Purchase, support, and safety information may include subscription and transaction status supplied by Apple; referral and email-notification delivery records; and information voluntarily included in feedback, support, safety, or debug reports, including limited relevant tutoring context and device diagnostics. Neo does not receive complete payment-card information from Apple.
  • Neo processes limited device, installation, rate-limit, request, delivery, analytics, crash, and reliability data to secure and operate the Service. Product analytics use a random identifier generated on the iPad and replaced when the signed-in account changes. Analytics and diagnostic tools are configured not to receive account identities, voice, tutoring messages, homework, drawings, feedback text, screenshots, touch history, session replays, advertising identifiers, or location.

4. How Neo Uses Information

  • Provide voice, text, visual, and worksheet tutoring, including transcription, speech generation, work review, and answer checking.
  • Save and synchronize homework, learning progress, settings, account-facing insights, subscriptions, prizes, streaks, and requested account notifications.
  • Authenticate accounts and devices, enforce limits, prevent abuse, respond to reports, and protect students and the Service.
  • Measure content-free feature use and reliability, improve performance, and comply with law.

5. Children and Parent-Managed Profiles

Neo is intended for students age 8 and older. A child under 13 may use Neo only through a parent-managed profile after a parent or legal guardian reviews Neo’s direct child privacy notice and provides the required consent. Students 13 or older may use a self-managed account or a parent-managed profile, subject to any higher consent age required where they live. Profiles created by a parent, including additional child profiles, are parent-managed.

While required approval is pending, Neo keeps a limited pending-profile record containing a random child identifier, display name, linked parent account identifier and email, security credential hashes, under-13 and parent-managed flags, and timestamps. Tutoring, product analytics, and cloud learning-data collection remain disabled. If approval is not completed within seven days, Neo deletes the pending profile, subject to the deletion-safety records described below. Parent and user choices are described in Section 10.

6. Service Providers and Other Disclosures

Neo uses service providers to deliver tutoring and operate the app. Depending on the features used, language and service availability, these providers process the following information:

ProviderPurposeInformation processed
OpenAI and GoogleAI tutoring and homework reviewMessages, homework images, board content and student profile details
Deepgram and AssemblyAISpeech recognitionStudent voice audio
Cartesia and InworldTutor speechTutor-response text
LiveKitLive tutoring connectionsSession audio, messages, images and identifiers
SupabaseAccount and learning-data hostingProfiles, saved homework, learning records and submitted reports
ResendAccount, parent-notification and support emailsEmail addresses and email content

Neo also uses providers for sign-in, subscription management, content-free usage analytics, crash diagnostics and website hosting. App-store and sign-in providers process certain information independently under their own privacy policies. Providers processing personal information on Neo’s behalf must protect it and use it only for the services they are engaged to provide. Neo may also disclose information when required by valid legal process; to investigate fraud, abuse or an immediate safety or security threat; as part of a business transaction subject to appropriate protections; or at a parent’s direction. For questions or requests concerning your child’s information, contact privacy@learnwithneo.com.

7. AI, Voice, and Human Review

Live tutoring sends relevant content through AI, image, real-time communication, speech-recognition, and speech-generation providers. Neo does not use tutoring content to train its own general-purpose AI models and selects paid API offerings whose published business terms state that customer content is not used to train general models by default.

Neo does not keep server-side copies of raw live audio, transient tutoring messages, or images after processing unless a feature intentionally saves them or a user submits them in a report. Providers may temporarily retain limited request, response, audio, or diagnostic data for security, abuse prevention, reliability, billing, or legal compliance. Neo’s primary AI provider retains prompts, contextual information, and responses for up to 60 days for abuse monitoring, security, and legal or regulatory obligations.

8. Where Information Is Stored and How It Is Protected

Session replays are stored only on the iPad. Saved homework is stored on the iPad and in Neo’s private cloud storage, where access controls limit each stored file to the signed-in account that owns it. Deleting saved homework, a profile, an account, or the app removes the corresponding local or cloud copies as described by the selected action.

Cloud account, learning, support, notification, and operational records are stored through Neo’s service providers. Neo uses safeguards such as encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, restricted production logging, and measures designed to prevent unauthorized access and abuse. No system can guarantee absolute security.

9. Retention and Deletion

  • Unapproved under-13 or parent-managed profile: deleted after seven days.
  • Active account, profile, progress, prize, and notification records: kept while the profile or account is active and deleted when the profile or account is deleted, except for the narrow records below or information a provider must retain temporarily.
  • Real-time tutoring content: Neo keeps no server-side copy after processing unless a feature or user-submitted report intentionally saves it. Third-party retention is described in Section 7.
  • Homework and replays: replays are kept on the iPad until the user deletes the work, profile, account, or app, subject to normal iOS behavior. Cloud-saved homework is kept while the profile is active and deleted when the homework, the profile, or the account is deleted.
  • Feedback, support, safety, and debug submissions: kept only as long as reasonably needed to resolve the matter, protect the service, or meet a legal obligation; linked submissions are deleted with the associated child or account where Neo’s deletion process can identify them.
  • Subscription and transaction records: retained by Apple, Neo, and Neo’s subscription-management provider as needed to manage access, prevent fraud, and meet financial or legal obligations.
  • Content-free analytics and security records: kept only as long as needed for product measurement, reliability, fraud prevention, or incident investigation.

When an account is deleted, Neo removes the account, cloud child records, linked learning data, and identified feedback or report records. To prevent deleted data from being restored accidentally or recreated through stale devices, Neo currently keeps narrow deletion-safety records that contain no name, email address, homework, tutoring message, or learning history: a random child-ID tombstone and keyed account-deletion marker may be retained indefinitely; a keyed email guard is retained for seven days; and a keyed child-to-account reconciliation marker is retained for up to 180 days. Neo does not use these markers for tutoring, advertising, or analytics.

Service-provider security records and encrypted backups may remain until the provider’s normal retention cycle ends or longer if law requires. Deleting a Neo account does not cancel an Apple subscription; subscriptions must be cancelled separately through Apple.

10. Parent and User Choices

  • Access and correctionReview and update profile information and learning progress in the Parent area, or contact us.
  • ExportExport My Data provides a portable copy of core cloud profile, progress, prize, session-summary, and activity records, including the cloud homework list. Homework pages restore to the iPad on sign-in; session replays remain only on the iPad. Contact us for help with other identified records.
  • DeletionDelete a profile or the account through Help & Legal, or contact us. Neo may verify identity and parent or guardian authority before acting.
  • ConsentWithdraw consent or refuse further collection by deleting the account or contacting us. This does not affect processing already completed lawfully.
  • Notifications and permissionsChange email-notification choices in the Parent or Profile tab and device permissions in iPad Settings.
  • ComplaintsContact us first so we can investigate. Depending on location, a user may also complain to a data-protection or consumer-protection authority.

11. Regional and International Information

Neo is operated from the United States, and providers may process information in the United States or other countries. When applicable law requires a transfer safeguard, Neo will use an appropriate contractual or legal mechanism.

Depending on location, users may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a portable copy of personal information. Where applicable, Neo processes information to perform the service, with consent, for legitimate interests such as security and content-free reliability measurement, and to meet legal obligations. Neo’s adaptive tutoring does not make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.

If the law where a student lives requires parent or guardian authorization at an older age, that authorization is required before the student uses Neo.

12. California and Do Not Track

Neo does not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Neo does not track activity across third-party apps or websites, so browser or device “Do Not Track” signals do not change Neo’s practices. California residents may request access, correction, or deletion using the methods above, subject to applicable law and identity verification.

13. Changes to This Policy

Neo may update this Policy to reflect changes to the service or law. The updated Policy will show a new date. Neo will provide additional notice of material changes and will request renewed parent or guardian consent before materially expanding the collection, use, or disclosure of a child’s personal information when required by law.
